Food Scientist

This full-time position works under the direction of the R&D Director.

Essential responsibility is to work with cross functional teams in the development of new product formulations and/or reformulation of existing products; product stabilization and training staff to identify commercialized-ready products.

Qualifications: B.S in Food Science or closely related field with at least 6 years’ experience. Preference for someone with experience in fermentation methods and processes. Demonstrated experience in product development and formulation from concept to completion. Working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations, experience with food safety, HACCP and quality regulations/programs is a plus. Prior professional experience supporting the development of vegan cheese and or other vegan product is a plus. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and be on your feet.

Production Supervisor

This position works under the direction of the Production Manager, and assists the Production Manager with ensuring the safety and productivity of all production employees and successfully achieving long term and short term goals of the department.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Helps ensure that production of products meets or exceeds efficiency and company quality standards and specifications, policies and procedures including regulatory requirements, HACCP and GMP.
  • Responsible for assisting Production manager with developing the production schedule in accordance with projected sales plan.
  • Assists Production Manager with work flow balancing- division of responsibilities amongst employees on each shift. Assists with daily manpower planning including assignment of responsibilities. Works in conjunction with Production manager to determine number of employees needed per shift.
  • Assists with monitoring quality of incoming raw materials and finished products per company standards.
  • Develops production SOPs as needed.
  • Assists with developing preventive maintenance schedule of machinery, ensures maintenance schedule is adhered to, and reports maintenance and repair issues in a timely manner.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a food production facility, with at least a year in a supervisory position in a food production/manufacturing environment.
  • Preference for someone who has experience in the cheesemaking industry.
  • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be detailed oriented, have strong leadership ability for motivating team members.
  • Excellent time management skills required, ability to handle multiple tasks without losing focus on priorities.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Ability to spend 75% to 80% a day on plant production floor.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.

Production Associates

We’re looking for passionate team members to help us make amazing vegan cheese and to create a rewarding workplace. Production Associates are responsible for preparing and making high quality, tasty products. They are the foundation of our brand and are passionate about what they do in the Kitchen!

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain work area, equipment, and personal sanitation.
  • Operate milling machine
  •  Form/fill cheese
  • Handle and treat cheese in various modes of treatment as prescribed
  • Work within a team to meet production goals
  • Weigh ingredients and document lot codes on make sheets.
  • Handle and inspect/treat cheese as applicable.
  • Operate filler; load filler with product.
  • Maintain accurate production records.  
  • Prepare, weigh, carry, load, product according to established guidelines.  
  • Account and apply labels/stickers/ to applicable trays/tubs/ etc.

 Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, with basic math skills.
  • Kitchen/bakery, and food preparation experience highly desirable.
  • Valid food handler’s certificate preferred.
  • Punctual, reliable and consistent in attendance. This is critical!
  • Able to work flexible hours, weekends, overtime as needed.
  • High attention to details; able to work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to work in multiple roles throughout the production center.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively and able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to push, pull, squat, bend and reach above and below shoulders. Repetitive use of hands.
  • Able to withstand working in a noisy environment (safety gear provided)
  • Exposure to temperatures that range from freezing to sub-freezing (coolers, freezers etc).

Packaging Associates

We’re looking for passionate team members to help us make amazing vegan cheese and to create a rewarding workplace. Packaging Associates label and put our finished products into boxes. They also help with maintaining accurate production records and ensure only top quality products are shipped out.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain work area, equipment, and personal sanitation.
  • De-form product from moldings without compromising the integrity of product.
  • Effective and Efficient loading and receiving from Vacuum Pack Machine.
  • Maintain accurate production records i.e. counts of units boxed/cased/crated/etc.  
  • Inspect product making sure seal is intact and only top quality product goes out.
  • Identifies and sorts out rework; handles rework in a timely manner.
  • Account and apply labels/stickers/ to applicable units/crates etc.  

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, with basic math skills.
  • Punctual, reliable and consistent in attendance. This is critical!
  • Able to work flexible hours, weekends, overtime as needed.
  • High attention to details; able to work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Previous food service experience preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and able to stand for extended periods of time.

Cheesemakers

At Miyoko’s Kitchen, our mission is to make the very best artisan vegan cheese enveloped in a range of flavors and textures. Through our products, we hope to inspire people to see vegan cheese and ultimately a plant-based, whole foods diet in an entirely new way.

The cheesemaker we seek has experience in making traditional dairy cheese and is excited to apply his/her knowledge to non-dairy cheese making.

Responsibilities:

  • Make a variety of fresh and aged vegan cheeses while following strict procedures, and in accordance to our HACCP-based food safety program.
  • Work with Production Manager and Quality Manager in overseeing quality of products produced
  • Handle raw ingredients, ensure accurate weights and measurements in accordance to recipes, monitor and attend to cheeses during the cheese aging period.
  • Rotate refrigerated stocks, assist with inventory count of ingredients, supplies and packaging.
  • Assist with cleaning equipment and machinery after use

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, with basic math skills.
  • 2 years cheesemaking experience in a commercial operation
  • Graduate of a cheesemaking course a plus
  • Knowledge of various cheesemaking techniques, cultures, enzymes, molds, aging, brining, etc.
  • Punctual, reliable and consistent in attendance. This is critical!
  • Able to work flexible hours, weekends, overtime as needed.
  • High attention to details; able to work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S.
