Plant Controller

We are a fast growing manufacturer of alternative dairy products currently located in Fairfax and will soon be opening a new manufacturing plant in Petaluma. The primary duties for this position involve plant cost accounting and expense control, secondary responsibility will be monthly financial reporting and to oversee the staff accountant who is responsible for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. The position reports to the CFO.

Essential Job Functions:

  • MUST HAVE – Manufacturing background.
  • Prepare, maintain and analyze product standard costs.
  • Oversee and reconcile inventory cycle counts and annual physical inventory.
  • Assist in preparation of capital appropriations requests.
  • Track/review cost reduction projects and maintain required reporting.
  • Identify issues and proactively initiate analysis (labor, material usage, spending, etc.).
  • Cost reduction monitoring, reporting, and results auditing (where applicable).
  • Prepare and coordinate the annual budget.
  • Oversee the monthly closing process.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget and prior year.
  • Responsible for the daily operations of the accounting/finance function.
  • Prepare special projects and financial analysis for discussions with management concerning product investment and/or pricing decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
  • Assist with financial audits as needed and provide recommendations for procedural improvements and control deficiencies.
  • Other duties as assigned by CFO.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA, CMA, or MBA preferable or equivalent, complementary work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive cost accounting and analysis experience with a manufacturing organization. A strong emphasis should be put on knowledge of management accounting, cost and inventory accounting, and GAAP.
  • Strong analytical skills are required to quickly grasp issues impacting the plant’s financial results.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills are required.
  • Ability to manage projects, work independently, and communicate effectively to all areas and levels of the location.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across plant and functional.
  • Must have a broad enough understanding of the business to be credible, make impactful changes, and support other projects that impact areas outside of accounting and reporting.
  • Focus on continuous improvement and the elimination of non-valued activities.
  • Experience in ERP reporting systems.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
  • Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
  • Strong MS Office skill set, especially Excel

Production Supervisor

This position works under the direction of the Production Manager, and assists the Production Manager with ensuring the safety and productivity of all production employees and successfully achieving long term and short term goals of the department.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Helps ensure that production of products meets or exceeds efficiency and company quality standards and specifications, policies and procedures including regulatory requirements, HACCP and GMP.
  • Responsible for assisting Production manager with developing the production schedule in accordance with projected sales plan.
  • Assists Production Manager with work flow balancing- division of responsibilities amongst employees on each shift. Assists with daily manpower planning including assignment of responsibilities. Works in conjunction with Production manager to determine number of employees needed per shift.
  • Assists with monitoring quality of incoming raw materials and finished products per company standards.
  • Develops production SOPs as needed.
  • Assists with developing preventive maintenance schedule of machinery, ensures maintenance schedule is adhered to, and reports maintenance and repair issues in a timely manner.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a food production facility, with at least a year in a supervisory position in a food production/manufacturing environment.
  • Preference for someone who has experience in the cheesemaking industry.
  • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be detailed oriented, have strong leadership ability for motivating team members.
  • Excellent time management skills required, ability to handle multiple tasks without losing focus on priorities.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Ability to spend 75% to 80% a day on plant production floor.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.

Food Scientist

This full-time position works under the direction of the R&D Director.

Essential responsibility is to work with cross functional teams in the development of new product formulations and/or reformulation of existing products; product stabilization and training staff to identify commercialized-ready products.

Qualifications: B.S in Food Science or closely related field with at least 6 years’ experience. Preference for someone with experience in fermentation methods and processes. Demonstrated experience in product development and formulation from concept to completion. Working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations, experience with food safety, HACCP and quality regulations/programs is a plus. Prior professional experience supporting the development of vegan cheese and or other vegan product is a plus. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and be on your feet.

Quality Control Supervisor

We’re looking for passionate team members to help us make amazing vegan cheese and to create a rewarding workplace. Reports to Quality Control Manager. Fulfills QC objectives to monitor food production and ensures food making processes, WIP, and all final products adhere to company quality standards and federal/state food safety regulations. Works alongside all other Quality Control and Production staff both on and off the production floor. Assumes responsibility for ensuring the documentation and enforcement of all quality processes in the company in the absence of the Quality Control Manager. Full-time (40 hours/week).

Essential Duties:

  • Ensuring products are free of adulteration, up to quality specifications, and free of labeling and packaging errors prior to shipping; executing proper inspection personally and training and managing the inspection done by Quality Control Technicians and general Production staff.
  • Monitoring CCPs when appropriate, and other quality control points, such as pH levels and temperatures. Making determinative decisions around these points as they arise.
  • Taking pictures, gathering data, and reporting on incidents of substandard processing/product.
  • Recording information about adulterated, discarded product (as well as any other incidents that require corrective action) in relevant records and logs.
  • Collect (or supervise the collection of) data for environmental monitoring protocols.
  • Maintain accessibility and currency of active QC monitoring documentation and archived records.  Provide feedback to QC Technicians on task performance/completion regarding documentation completion and/or problem-solve along with QC Technicians on how to resolve monitoring deficiencies/incompletion.
  • Facilitate communication/awareness of quality control concerns (and successes!) from the production/warehouse floor up to the Quality Control Manager.

Secondary Duties:

  • Preparing some incoming products for physical inspection and preparing received ingredients for transfer to inventory.
  • Preparing some incoming products for pathogen sampling according to the sampling schedule and procedures.
  • Collecting and analyzing data regarding customer complaints about quality.
  • Assisting in inventory count and inventory organization as it may involve any quality control concerns; completing/facilitating any related corrective actions and documentation.
  • Coordinate with Research & Development Department any projects that may need assistance from Quality Control in monitoring the progress of projects in development.
  • Self-directing toward ongoing projects regarding quality control, quality assurance, sanitation, or organization when no other specific tasks are assigned.

Summary of qualifications:

  • A degree in Food Science or related field from a regionally accredited college or university, or 1-2 years of experience in the field preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task!!
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and follow-through.
  • Comfort with identifying and communicating mistakes in other employees’ work, and skill in directing other employees toward the correct process.
  • Positive attitude, with a willingness to adapt in an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to lift 50Lb boxes repetitively for short periods of time (physical exertion will vary from day to day).
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish (verbal) and English preferred.
  • Food production/kitchen experience preferred.
  • Proficient in spelling, grammar, MS Office, and main Google Apps.
  • Organized, high level of attention to detail, and punctual.

Quality Control Technician

We’re looking for passionate team members to help us make amazing vegan cheese and to create a rewarding workplace. This position works under the direction of the Quality Control Manager, and assists the QC Manager with ensuring that the production facility and finished products meet regulated sanitation and quality standards. You must be organized, detail oriented with excellent follow-through. You must also be a team builder, with the ability to motivate and coach other staff members towards the compliance of quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete Daily Opening Sanitation Checklist), and release production space to production team at start of day.
  • Take and record pH.  Compile pH data and analyze trends.
  • Care for, clean, and calibrate pH meter.
    • Record calibrations in pH Meter Calibration Log, and maintenance in Preventive Maintenance and Repair Log.
  • Take and record storage temperatures.  **Compile temperature data and analyze trends.
  • Care for, clean, and calibrate thermometers.
    • Record calibrations in Thermometer Calibration Log, and maintenance in Preventive Maintenance and Repair Log.
  • Take and record water activity measurements:
    • …of fermenting tubs, and …of aging units.
  • Compile water activity data and analyze trends.
  • Care for, clean, and calibrate water activity meter.
    • Record calibrations in Water Activity Meter Calibration Log, and maintenance in Preventive Maintenance and Repair Log.
  • Perform detergent and sanitizer concentration checks, and record results in Sanitizer Concentration Log.
  • Conduct regular environmental swab sampling to test for pathogen presence.
    • Record results and analyze for trends.
  • Conduct regular ATP sampling to validate sanitation procedures.

  • Assist in identifying and responding to incidents that require corrective action.  (E.g., glass breakage; identifying and segregating product adulterated by physical hazards; contamination due to improper handwashing/glove use; allergen cross-contact.)
  • Manage storage of retains.
  • Conduct and record results of retains testing/tasting.  **Compile SKU results and analyze trends.
  • Monitor in-progress product regarding organoleptic characteristics:
    • Taste,
    • Color and visual appearance, and
    • Texture/firmness.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Calibrate scales according to maintenance schedule, and as needed.
    • Record calibrations in Scale Calibration Log.
  • Monitor production space for GMP compliance.
  • Monitor production space for allergen control compliance.
  • Monitor production space for organic compliance.
  • Monitor production’s use of ingredients:
    • Weights measured match weights in recipe,
    • Lot codes are recorded,
    • Ingredients are drawn down according to FIFO principles, and
    • Ingredients used are of acceptable quality.
  • Monitor product in aging room for visible mold and correct storage (use/absence of parchment paper as appropriate, etc.).
  • Monitor packaging of finished goods:
    • Weights are in compliance,
    • Vacuum packaging is in compliance regarding seal integrity and overall product look,
    • Lot codes and best-by dates are correct, and
    • Case labels are correct.
  • Coordinate semi-weekly tastings of aged products to determine readiness, and record results.
  • Attend all staff trainings and meetings as deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor.
  • Adhere to the company’s Code of Conduct and all other internal policies and procedures.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Manager.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write and interpret documents related to GMP compliance.
  • Minimum GED or its equivalent.
  • Previous work experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time, and be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Willing to become an expert on GMP work processes and train team to standard procedures as necessary.
  • High attention to details; able to work quickly and accurately.

Production Associates

Production Associates are responsible for preparing and making high quality, tasty products. They are the foundation of our brand and are passionate about what they do in the Kitchen!

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain work area, equipment, and personal sanitation.

  •  Form/fill cheese
  • Handle and treat cheese in various modes of treatment as prescribed
  • Work within a team to meet production goals

  • Handle and inspect/treat cheese as applicable.

  • Prepare, weigh, carry, load, product according to established guidelines.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, with basic math skills.
  • Kitchen/bakery, and food preparation experience highly desirable.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain work area, equipment, and personal sanitation.
  • De-form product from moldings without compromising the integrity of product.
  • Effective and Efficient loading and receiving from Vacuum Pack Machine.
  • Maintain accurate production records i.e. counts of units boxed/cased/crated/etc.  
  • Inspect product making sure seal is intact and only top quality product goes out.
  • Identifies and sorts out rework; handles rework in a timely manner.
  • Account and apply labels/stickers/ to applicable units/crates etc.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, with basic math skills.
  • Punctual, reliable and consistent in attendance. This is critical!

Cheesemakers

At Miyoko’s Kitchen, our mission is to make the very best artisan vegan cheese enveloped in a range of flavors and textures. Through our products, we hope to inspire people to see vegan cheese and ultimately a plant-based, whole foods diet in an entirely new way.

The cheesemaker we seek has experience in making traditional dairy cheese and is excited to apply his/her knowledge to non-dairy cheese making.

Responsibilities:

  • Make a variety of fresh and aged vegan cheeses while following strict procedures, and in accordance to our HACCP-based food safety program.
  • Work with Production Manager and Quality Manager in overseeing quality of products produced
  • Handle raw ingredients, ensure accurate weights and measurements in accordance to recipes, monitor and attend to cheeses during the cheese aging period.
  • Rotate refrigerated stocks, assist with inventory count of ingredients, supplies and packaging.
  • Assist with cleaning equipment and machinery after use

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, with basic math skills.
  • 2 years cheesemaking experience in a commercial operation
  • Graduate of a cheesemaking course a plus
  • Knowledge of various cheesemaking techniques, cultures, enzymes, molds, aging, brining, etc.

Marketing Brand Manager

We are looking for an experienced Brand manager who is passionate about developing dynamic marketing campaigns, analyzing marketing and sales data, and working with our sales team for in-store support, retail and distributor presentations.   • Track and record data relating to marketing and sales activities.
  • Manage sales and marketing reports. Familiarity with Spins reporting is a plus.
